May 9th, 2012 — The Tuesday night criteriums at UBC organized by Team Escape Velocity Cycling Club are back. More pictures below.

Race the Ridge

April 28th, 2012 — The Race the Ridge stage road race consisting of a road race, time trial, and criterium held in Maple Ridge and sponsored by Local Ride Bike Shop.

Morgan Cabot was the overall winner in the Cat 1/2 women. Sandra Walter, 2nd in the picture made an heroic break in the criterium but it was Clare Cameron, 3rd in the picture, who won the race.

Overall winner Cody Canning leads 2nd place finisher Tim Abercrombie to the finish during Saturdays road race while on the right Jenny Lehmann winner of the road race on Saturday leads Lisa Howard who finished 2nd in Sunday’s criterium.

Greg Christian and Adam De Vos finish 3rd and 4th overall.

March 4th, 2012 — Jeff Werner and Gary Christian of Garneau Evolution on a break that lasted almost the entire race at the first event of the 2012 Escape Velocity Spring Series held near Langley.

Muhammad Ali

circa 1969 — Muhammad Ali boxing in an exhibition match in Edmonton, Alberta circa 1969. Ali was stripped of his license to box professionally in 1967 because he refused to be drafted into the US army. During the four years it took to regain his license he participated in exhibitions with sparing partners in Canada and the US. Muhammad Ali is 70 years old today.

Sprint karts in the rain

1970′s — Sprint karts at Westwood Racing Circuit in Coquitlam, in the rain. It must have been an important race because usually no one showed up if it rained.

Harold Kaesbauer

September 1977 — Harold Kaesbauer sitting in his twin engine kart during a rainy practice for an enduro race at Westwood Racing Circuit in Coquitlam. Karts didn’t like the rain in the 1970′s. Sometimes the carburetors ingested more water that gasoline giving new meaning to the expression, “it won’t start, I think it’s flooded”.

BC Cyclocross Championships

November 27th, 2011 — The 2011 BC Cyclocross Championships were held at Mahon Park in North Vancouver on a soggy, slick and muddy course.

Eventual winner on the Elite Men’s race, H&R Block’s Aaron Schooler chases Trek Red Truck’s Tyler Trace before Trace fell back with a mechanical problem.
