The surf at Ambleside Beach in West Vancouver in September looked tame but I’m sure the water was cold; very cold. A faster and warmer ride was the human powered hydrofoil off Jericho Sailing Centre in Vancouver in August. Both activities, of course, ended up with a splash in the water.
