About the pictures
-
The premiss for the photographs in this photoblog is that photography is less about being creative than it is about recognizing the significance of our surroundings and making records. Content is more important than technique.
Almost all of the photographs are from my archives and most of these were taken on assignments during my thirty years working for newspapers beginning in 1967.
You will notice that the photographs on the site are big. They are displayed as large as I feel internet connections will tolerate. I’m more concerned that people see the photographs properly than I am about people downloading them and making small prints for themselves or using them on their computers as wall paper. I would prefer people to buy prints from me but there is a philosophy that says art is a gift and art that is sold is nothing but a commodity and depreciates in spiritual value over time. It’s an old fashioned idea these days yet it’s one I believe in which is not the same as saying if you offer me money for a photograph I won’t take it.
Prints approximately 12×18 inches printed on 13×19 inch paper are $50.00 including taxes and shipping. Prints approximately 10×7 inches printed on letter sized paper are $25.00 including taxes and shipping. All photographs are printed with Epson Ultrachrome archival inks on a semi gloss paper.
